Pennsylvania Heritage Table - Hemlock and Wormy Chestnut
This handmade console table highlights the woodcraft and forestry heritage of Western Pennsylvania. Newly built, the top is made from a reclaimed plank of hemlock that spent about 120 years siding a farm building that was recently taken down. It has been carefully preserved over several months using traditional deep penetrating oil based treatments applied and allowed to cure before final finishing. A few checks from age and weathering have been arrested with inlays made of Pennsylvania walnut, two bow ties and an outline of the state. A weathered edge and end have been preserved, adding texture and highlighting the history, feeling comfortably worn to the touch.
The base is perhaps even more special. Made from functionally extinct American wormy chestnut, reclaimed from local structures and re-milled. Assembled using hand cut traditional joinery, the crossed base and angled placement of the double tapered legs show off the material of both base and top without appearing heavy while remaining strong and stable.
